Global Classics: A Collaborative Framework in China

For the past five years, the Department of Classical Studies at Dickinson College has spearheaded a collaboration of western classical scholars and teachers. Through scholarly conferences, faculty exchanges, and the website, Dickinson Classics Online, which publishes resources for Chinese students and scholars of the ancient Greek and Latin Classics, the Dickinson collaboration continues to foster new and exciting scholarship and teaching; for example, for the first time, a complete translation with notes and introduction in Chinese of the works of Ovid, sponsored by the Chinese government, Shanghai Normal University, Dickinson College, and Columbia University. Along with the goals and vision for this collaboration, this talk by Marc Mastrangelo will focus on the cross-cultural dimensions of translating scholarly traditions and methods.
