ENVS 0401 A Community Engaged Environmental Studies Practicum Presentations: Desalt, Detox
In this Howard E. Woodin Environmental Studies Colloquium Series talk students in ENVS 0401 A will present their work from their semester long projects.
Students in ENVS 0401 A will work on projects related to reducing human and environmental exposures to toxic substances. In partnership with local, regional, or state-level nonprofits and potentially state legislators, students will work on issues like reducing salt use by towns and private applicators, which corrodes our infrastructure and imperils our freshwater ecosystems, or on policies aimed at ensuring toxic substances don’t pollute our food supply and air. Projects are expected to relate to statewide policies, some of which are under consideration by the VT legislature this session (e.g., VT S. 218) and will provide students the opportunity to develop their skills and flex their creativity in diverse areas, ranging from spatial analysis, survey development and community-based social marketing, to natural science methods and digital storytelling.
