“Why will you ask her?” Wildlife conservation, sustainable development, and gender issues in India by Monica Ogra, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies, Gettysburg College.
How do knowledge gaps in the area of “gender and the environment” undermine efforts to promote sustainable development? In this talk, I will highlight selected findings and insights from my work in protected areas in northern India about gender, wildlife conservation, and environmental change. In so doing, I aim to stimulate discussion and reflection about ways in which the pursuit of better and more empirically informed practices can provide the basis for a more optimistic and empowering vision for the future – not just in PAs, but everywhere
