I’m from the Government and I’m Here to Help: Challenges and Opportunities in USDA Conservation Programs
Jeannie Bartlett ’15, District Manager, Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation
Natural Resources Conservation Districts originated out of the Dust Bowl to “Help people help the land,” but some of their past programs also contributed to our current environmental problems. Today the USDA-NRCS plays a lead role in reducing agricultural phosphorus loading to Lake Champlain. A recent alum reflects on the challenges created by past programs, as well as sources of inspiration and leverage points for continued change.
