Robert Ludwig, organist at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Middlebury will present music of the 18th-21st centuries on the fantastic Gress-Miles organ of the College Chapel. The centerpiece of the program is J.S. Bach’s complex masterpiece Toccata and Fugue in d (Dorian), BWV 538. The program also includes compositions by Elfrida Andrée, an activist in the Swedish women’s movement and the first Swedish woman to conduct a symphony orchestra and an arrangement of We Shall Overcome by Carl Haywood, Conductor of the National HBCU Concert Choir.

Ludwig is Director of Music at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on the Green in Middlebury. Now retired from full-time work, his career included more than two decades of directing the music programs of two notable cathedrals, conducting dozens of premieres of commissioned pieces, conducting concerts throughout the East Coast, Canada and the U.K., serving on the Fulbright Screening Committee for Organ and Harpsichord, and teaching vocal music and music theory at one of the top high schools in the U.S. for music education.
