Carillon Recital for World Peace

George Matthew Jr., carillonneur for Middlebury College and Norwich University, plays  “St. Francis’ Trial” by Belgian composer Jo Coenen on the Mead Chapel carillon. The work tells the story of the wonderful encounter between Saint Francis of Assisi and the Sultan Malek al Kamil in 1219, in stark contrast to the violence of the Fifth Crusade. This piece will be played on carillons throughout Belgium and Netherlands on this day to reflect the Ecumenical movement in Europe. An interfaith event following Muslim Jumma prayers at 1:00 PM.
