Members of this panel have had highly esteemed careers in US and foreign government agencies, national laboratories, intergovernmental organizations and private sector consulting firms. National Virtual Translation Center (NVTC) representatives will provide a briefing on career opportunities for translators. All applicants need to be U.S. citizens.

Since the middle of the 19th century, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital has been a vital part of health care in New York City. The hospital has an in-house Language Department that is recruiting for Chinese, Russian and Spanish interns for summer 2018 to support its diverse patient population. Following the second session’s topic of what investors want to know about companies, this session focuses on the aspects of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow) as well as disclosure in public company earnings calls/presentations.

Frank Wei is the CEO and President of Master Translation Services (MTS), a language service provider headquartered in China. He founded MTS in 2000. The company currently has 80 in-house linguists and seven branch offices in mainland China, Taiwan and USA. MTS ranks among the CSA Global 100 LSPs in 2017. In this session, Frank will present the current state of the localization industry in China.

If so, come hear Professor Avineri discuss the job search process, including crafting effective CVs and resumes and cover letters for language education positions and strategies for effective interviewing. Sample interview questions will be shared, and students will have the opportunity to practice giving answers with immediate feedback.

This lecture will present entrepreneurship as a viable option for language students and explores different paths to entrepreneurship. The lecture will first present the ecosystem and the labor market in the language industry. This lecture will highlight critical skills that students need in preparation for the workforce of tomorrow. We will discuss each common career path briefly and then lay out the paths to entrepreneurship.
