Hepburn Zoo Theater
The scene is the deserted Victorian boathouse on the Talley place in Lebanon, Missouri, July 1944. Matt Friedman, a Jewish accountant from St. Louis, has arrived to plead his love to Sally Talley, the educated liberal daughter of a conservative Midwestern family. Sally tries to drive Matt away, apparently seeing no potential in their match, but he presses on, and over the course of 97 minutes they probe into each other’s deepest and most painful secrets in search of real honesty and love.
