Taiko is a Japanese drumming art form that involves music, voice and movement. Burlington Taiko provides this 90-minute workshop introducing the basic notes and movement of one taiko piece. Students should come to class in loose-fitting clothing that’s easy to move in. All equipment is provided. No previous experience is necessary!

Join this information session to learn about Japan-related summer and study abroad opportunities, by a panel of fellow students. Programs include Middlebury School in Tokyo, summer language programs (CLS and Princeton in Ishikawa), and service-learning (JSSL).  

Come join Japanese Club at the AFC for a relaxing welcome event with ramen and Japanese music. Get to know your fellow peers by sharing a cozy atmosphere in comfy chairs, relaxing music, yummy noodles, and warm yuzu tea. Dr. Spatafora of the MBB department and Sakura Yagi (‘09) will give a lecture on the chemistry and culture of sake, the Japanese fermented rice drink. Dr. Spatafora is Heinz-Given Professor of the Pre-medical Sciences. Sakura Yagi is COO of the T.I.C. Restaurant Group in NYC. This lecture will be followed the next day by a ticketed, multiple-course Sake Dinner in Atwater by Japanese Club. Join us!

Join the Japanese Club for a small lecture event to talk about the history of Okinawa, the southern island part of Japan. Following the short history lesson, we will be serving a traditional Okinawa dish that was influenced by an American adaptation of a Mexican dish.

Japanese Club will be meeting to discuss Hirokazu Kore-eda’s previous films before the official screening of “Shoplifters” (2018), which won the Palme D’or earlier this year.
