To kick off the Mahaney Arts Center’s 30th anniversary, Burlington Taiko performs two half-hour sets on the MAC’s back lawn. Come for the 4:30 or 5:30 PM shows, or stay for both! Come early for a parade from the center of campus starting at 3:45 PM. All ages. Rain or shine. Sign language interpretation will be provided.

VSO String Quartet: Halloween Family Concert

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s quartet presents a musical narration of Steve Schuch’s book, A Symphony of Whales, inspired by the true story about whales stranded in the Siberian Sea and the heroic efforts to free them. Music plays a key role in the rescue, and the concert audience becomes part of the recovery. The quartet also plays special spooky Halloween selections. Costumes encouraged and treats provided. Sponsored by the Mahaney Center for the Arts. Tickets: $8 adults; $6 seniors and children; $24 families (up to 4 people)

VSO Wind Quintet: Halloween Family Concert

This hour-long, kid-friendly program starts out with several spooky selections, including “March of the Marionettes” and an abbreviated version of Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Then Vermont Symphony Orchestra musicians (Anne Janson, flute, Katie Oprea, oboe, Betsy LeBlanc, clarinet, Becky Eldredge, bassoon, and Alan Parshley, French horn) are joined by narrator Peter Hamlin ’73 for a dramatic and amusing piece by Maddy Aldis-Evans called “The Witch and the Winds.” Come in costume — treats provided! Co-presented with KidsVT.
