Middlebury Mountain Club
Join the MMC on Friday the 23rd for its 2nd annual Broomball Tournament! Broomball is almost exactly like hockey, except you play in snow boots rather than skates, and with brooms rather than sticks. It is considered the second national sport of Canada!
Sign up in teams of six at go/broomball, and then show up to Kenyon Arena (the hockey rink) at 12:00 pm with your team. We will provide all necessary equipment - just bring your inner Wayne Gretzky. Rumor has it there will be prizes for the top three teams…

Poker or Chess? Forecasting avalanches and guiding in British Columbia’s backcountry

Answering this deceivingly simple question is an exploration in the science of snow and the psychology of high-stakes decision making, the ethics of informed consent, and a structured approach to risk management that tries to put it all together. With snow and avalanches there always seems to be more questions — so please bring yours! Ilya Storm is an ACMG Ski Guide and forecaster with Avalanche Canada.
