Skin and Ski at the Bowl: Practice trip for the Chic Chocs

This trip will introduce the Chic Choc participants to backcountry/Alpine touring equipment, uphill travel, and will serve as an assessment of skill prior to the Feb Break trip. On Thursday, January 9th, we’ll meet at the Gear room in the FIC at 4:30pm to introduce and fit participants with equipment.
On Friday, January 10th, we’ll meet at 12:30pm and travel to the Middlebury Snowbowl for a ski tour, using their uphill policy. We will return around 4pm.
***Previous alpine ski experience required***

Ice Climbing at Pitchoff Cliffs

Come join Rich and Maya for what will be the first ice climbing trip of the 2025 winter season! Sign up if you’ve been burning to get on some ice!

Armed with crampons and ice tools, you will learn all the necessary skills to climb the frozen waterfalls in Chapel Pond Canyon. We’ll begin with a classroom session at 4:30pm on Monday, January 13th  at the Gear Room in the FIC to introduce and fit equipment.

Chic Chocs Backcountry Skiing: Feb Break in Gaspesie National Park

Join Middlebury Outdoor Programs and the Mountain Club for a week-long, February break backcountry ski trip in the Chic Choc mountains! The Chic Chocs in Quebec, Canada, have been heralded as the backcountry skiing mecca of the east and can provide some amazing alpine experiences. There are limited spots and all aspiring participants must fill out an application and be accepted prior to the lottery selection process.
Being that this is still the EAST, snow conditions can be variable based on weather.

Backcountry Skiing at Bolton Valley

Join Middlebury Outdoor Programs on a Bolton Valley Backcountry ski trip! If you’ve joined us in the past for our skin and ski series at the Snowbowl, and looking for the next step in your alpine touring adventure, then look no further!
Bolton Valley, a mere 60’ drive from campus, boasts some of Vermont’s premiere backcountry skiing terrain, with over 12,000 acres of wilderness to explore.
As mentioned above, this trip is recommended for those who’ve already partaken in our Snowbowl trips in the past, or already have touring experience.

Join us for a special BIPOC affinity event at the climbing wall! This beginner-friendly session is open to all skill levels, and we’ll be climbing together in a supportive environment. In addition to climbing, we’ll also be exploring our creativity with a fun collaging activity. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
