Affiliate artists of the Middlebury College Department of Music present an eclectic concert, playing some of their favorite works, from classical to bluegrass. The artists send a special invite to their music lesson students, and the public is welcome. Free

Amy Wlodarski ’97, associate professor of music at Dickinson College, discusses the film score for Alain Resnais’s Holocaust documentary Nuit et Brouillard/Night and Fog (1955), with particular attention to how it illustrates the broader postwar phenomenon of secondary Holocaust witness.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration features a hybrid of concert and participatory dance, highlighting the rich and related traditions of Ireland and Brittany. Timothy Cummings, affiliate artist and piper, is joined by Pete Sutherland (fiddle, banjo, song), Dominique Dodge (harp, song), and special guest Jeremiah McLane (accordian, piano), dance caller, and student guests. An Evening with The Sound Investment Jazz Ensemble and The Middlebury Swing Dance Club!

The College’s swingin’ big band performs at the Town Hall Theater for another sparkling evening! The joint will be jumpin’ when the party starts at 7:30. Bring your dancing shoes or just come to enjoy the Sound Investment’s great music. This special evening honors the work of Project Independence/Elderly Services.

To Bop or Not To Bop? The Sound Investment follows its fall tribute to Dizzy and Monk with an evening of traditional and contemporary big band music. While there might be a bop tune or two, also listen for a range of styles from Dixieland to Brazilian ballads. As usual, there might be dancing in the aisles!! A Music Department event. Free

The Sound Investment celebrates the centennials of two of the giants of jazz: Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk. The program features their original compositions as well as standards they loved to play. Certain to be a special evening. Free

Select music students present a variety of songs, duets, and arias that range from the Baroque era to the present. Accompanied by affiliate artist Cynthia Huard and by Annemieke McLane, piano. A Music Department event. Free

Free improvisation, electronic sounds. Middlebury musicians Mark Christensen, Damascus Kafumbe, Fiona Sullivan, Peter Hamlin and Matthew Taylor present a spontaneous evening of improvised music featuring multiple instruments, singing, and lots of electronics.
