The Islamic Society of Middlebury College is throwing a dinner to celebrate Eid ul Adha, a Muslim holiday. Come to the dinner to learn more about the faith and to partake in great food from Middle Eastern and South Asian cuisines. Open to the first 90 at the door. A night not to be missed!

A Night with Dawud Wharnsby

Dawud Wharnsby is a Muslim-Canadian born poet and songwriter. His career as a musician includes fifteen solo albums, five poetry anthologies, numerous sound-track credits, and performances in some of the most prestigious theatres. He has also collaborated with world-renowned and world-celebrated artists, such as Yusuf Islam, Zain Bikha, Irshad Khan, Hadiqa Kiani, Danny Thompson, Stephen Fearing, and Danny McKhool. From 2009 onwards, the Royal Islamic Strategic Stduies Centre (Jordan) considers Dawud to be among the top 500 Most Influential Muslims in the world.

Islam as Religion and Tradition: Mevlevi Sufism

Shaikh Kabir Helminski is a translator of the works of Rumi and others, since 1990 a Shaikh of the Mevlevi Order (which traces back to Jalaluddin Rumi), and co-director of The Threshold Society (Sufism.org) In 2009 and subsequent years Kabir was named as one of the “500 Most Influential Muslims in the World.” His books on spirituality, Living Presence and The Knowing Heart, have been published in at least eight languages. His most recent book is Holistic Islam: Sufism, Transformation, and The Challenge of Our Times.
