Students will give presentation about the importance of divestment and the affects of climate change

Grab some goodies from MiddCatering and join SNEG for the concluding event of our Divest fest weekend! Mingle with SNEG members, community members, SNEG alumni, and others as we celebrate our achievements in Divest and discuss our next steps.

How are Scandinavia and Iceland confronting the challenges of climate change? Is there something about their culture or political structure that has put them at the forefront of efforts to reduce human impact on the climate? These questions and more will be the subject of a presentation entitled “Climate Action and Social Democracy—Lessons Learned from the Nordic Countries.” Local climate activists Fran and Spence Putnam set out on a five-week, self-designed study tour of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland for a first-hand look at their climate policies.

Brass Burlesque presents Compost Bin!, a queer Cabaret Show bringing some of NYC’s finest, fiercest, and most fabulous performers to Middlebury for a one night only event! This show will also feature performances by student drag performers. Friday March 8th at 8pm in Crossroads Cafe. Free and open to the public.

Thomas Tonatiuh Lopez Jr., 26, is the executive director of the International Indigenous Youth Council (IIYC), an organization born out of the Standing Rock Indigenous Uprising of 2016. IIYC aims to protect people and the elements and inspire the youth to become community leaders. He will deliver 45-minute remarks about his personal experience of resisting the extractive industries at Standing Rock and the national indigenous fight against oppression. This will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A.
