Earth Week Water Film Festival

As part of Earth Week “Water Wednesday” at MIIS, this screening will celebrate several short films that use film as their medium of activism, highlighting efforts and stories that educate and inspire protection of our ocean, coastline, and water resources.

Earth Day Garden BBQ

Sustainability Council invites you to an Earth Day BBQ from 12 to 2pm in the Green Thumb Community Garden. There will be free food, including burgers and ice cream. We will also be hosting educational workshops for gardeners of all experience about prepping seed starters and making wildflower seed bombs. At 1PM we will be holding a planting & paint party and will plant berry and citrus trees around the perimeter of the garden. If you’d like to have your bike fixed, bring it with you and we’ll take a look!

Earth Day Community Service Day with the Big Sur Land Trust

Join the Big Sur Land Trust and the Sustainability Council in this effort to restore local lands! Activities will include: converting existing fences to wildlife-friendly fencing, installing boundary signs, removing invasive species, improving trails and roads, and restoring the historic hacienda. Snacks and lunches will be provided! Location: Marks Ranch, next to Toro County Park

Composting at the Workplace 101

The Monterey Regional Waste Management District will be leading a hands on demonstration and workshop on Tuesday, April 17 at 12:30PM in Morse B106. This Composting 101 workshop is open to all but will be particularly targeted to MIIS faculty, staff, students. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be fully equipped with knowledge on how to compost at their workplace.

Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony

Spring Commencement 2022 will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00PM Pacific Time. The in-person ceremony will be held outdoors at Colton Hall Lawn, Pacific Street between Madison and Jefferson Streets, Monterey, CA.

The ceremony will be accessible in an online format with livestream for graduates, families and friends around the globe. A reception will be held at the Samson Student Center on campus immediately following the ceremony.

Become a Climate Activist - Poster Painting

Have you wanted to get more involved in combating the climate crisis, but don’t know where to start? Look no further. This Earth Week activity will involve making posters to raise awareness about the climate crisis. It will also be an open & welcoming space for discussion, questions and processing of what can sometimes be an overwhelming and confusing issue. Coming together to create art is the first step towards change. In any successful movement in the past, poster making, and art was essential. It’s now time for the climate movement.

Coffee is recognized by all as a popular drink. Independent of who you are, coffee has a history that has evolved with humans over millennia. Come meet Jaime and learn about his journey as a first-generation coffee grower. All who participate get to enjoy some specialty coffee straight from their family farm in Colombia!
