The first Global California Conference was given at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley in 2003, and since then the last ten statewide annual conferences have focused on the issues and solutions of job creation through the promotion of bilateral trade and investment between California and the global marketplace. As part of the Envisioning Middlebury lecture series, Gardner Campbell, Associate Professor of English and Special Assistant to the Provost at Virginia Commonwealth University, will discuss how the paradigm of “romantic computing”—the experience of wonders, uncanny encounters, strangeness, and adventure through technology—can inspire higher education. (Gardner will be live in Monterey, and will speak via videoconference to a combined Middlebury Institute/Middlebury College audience.)

Founder of Terrawode Alice Emasu Presents "Fistula in Uganda"

Alice Emasu, MSW and founder of Terrewode in Uganda will present on Terrewode’s work. Alice is in the United States to participate at the United Nations High Commission on the Status of Women conference in New York. Alice will also be on hand to answer questions about her life in Uganda, traveling to Washington University in St. Louis to receive her MSW, and the way she applies what she learned in a very different society. She is excited to meet with the MIIS Community. This event is hosted by The WIP and open to the public.
