College Library Showcases American Visual Culture

Opening on Thurs. Jan. 25 at the Middlebury College Museum of Art, located in the College’s Center for the Arts, Rte. 30, is “Art Now: Transparency,” an exhibition that presents three-dimensional works by eight artists who engage transparent visual phenomena.
On Thurs., Jan. 25 the Middlebury College Museum of Art will open an important exhibition of contemporary photographs titled “Robert Adams: Turning Back, A Photographic Journal of Re-exploration.”
On Tues., Sept. 5, the Middlebury College Museum of Art, located in the college’s Center for the Arts, Route 30, will open “Art Now: Dawn Clements,” the newest installment of its ongoing contemporary art series. “Travels with Myra Hudson,” a room-scale brush-and-ink drawing by New York artist Dawn Clements, will fill the entire Overbrook Gallery of the museum in this installation.
On Sept. 14 the Middlebury College Museum of Art will open “Treasures from the Royal Tombs of Ur,” the nationally celebrated traveling exhibition from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
The Middlebury College Museum of Art announced this week that it has received a significant gift of contemporary photography.

On Thurs., June 29, the Middlebury College Museum of Art opens the exhibition The Past within the Present: Contemporary Classical Chinese Paintings from the John and Alice Z. Berninghausen Collection.
Each year the Friends of the Art Museum at Middlebury College recognize those who have made significant contributions to the community, either through their creative endeavors or through support for the visual arts in Addison County.
Matt Mullican, the artist who was commissioned to create the 25-foot by 74-foot mural that hangs in the atrium of the new Middlebury College library, will speak about the mural and his artistic process at 7:30 p.m. on Thurs., Mar. 2, in Twilight Auditorium, located on Rt. 125 on the Middlebury campus.
