Class of 2011 Post-Graduate Report

A survey was conducted in late spring of 2011 to assess the post-graduation plans of students in the class of 2011.  Of the 688 students contacted by email with a request to participate, 474 completed the survey, representing a 69% response rate.  The survey posed a variety of questions regarding students’ immediate plans after graduation.  This report summarizes some of the students’ responses to these questions.

Post-graduation Plans

At the time of the survey (late spring of students’ senior year), 36% of students reported that they had secured employment (33% employed full-time), and another 25% were engaged in a job search.  Fourteen percent of students reported that they would be attending graduate school (they had either been accepted or had applied and were waiting to hear back from schools to which they had applied).  Another 14% had planned to travel or do volunteer work, while 8% percent of students had secured an internship.  Three percent of students had secured a fellowship to pursue independent or graduate work.

More students in the class of 2011 (36%) reported having secured employment than in the classes of 2010 (34%) or 2009 (25%).  In fact, this year’s employment rate is the highest reported by seniors in recent years, as shown in the table below.
