Joani moved to Vermont and joined Middlebury College in December 2012.  As an International Student and Scholar Advisor, Joani helps international students, faculty and staff maintain their legal visa status by advising them on immigration regulations pertaining to their respective statuses.  With a focus on the undergraduate population, Joani develops programs to support the international students’ experiences at Middlebury and coordinates Early Arrival.

Joani’s passion for working with international students and diverse populations developed after studying abroad as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University.  After participating in a summer program that highlighted the language and culture of France, Joani returned to Texas and signed up to go abroad again, this time for a full academic year.  While studying at the Universite de Caen Basse-Normandie in France, Joani also worked as an English Assistant through a program sponsored by the Conseil General du Calvados.

After graduating with a B.A. in English and French from Texas A&M, Joani moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.  She spent nearly six years working as both an English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor and Site Director of an English language school.  Joani oversaw the Intensive English Program, served as the Principal Designated School Official and developed initiatives, such as a student housing program and library, to enrich the experiences of her international students.  Joani later joined the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as an Enrollment Counselor/International Advisor in a unique position that allowed her to work directly with both U.S. and international students.  In addition,  Joani collaborated heavily with other offices on campus to support programming efforts for international students.

Joani is originally from a small town in Texas best known for the American alligators which inhabit its lakes.  In her free time, Joani continues to travel and enjoys cooking, hiking, going to concerts, photographing dogs and watching documentaries with her husband, Romain.
