Janet Hulnick

Janet Hulnick joined Middlebury in March 2019 as the Interim Immigration Specialist. She provides immigration support for international students, faculty and staff. Prior to her work at Middlebury, Janet served as the Director of International Student and Scholar Services at School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute for more than 25 years. She has expertise in F-1 and J-1 student government regulations and served as the Primary Designated Student Officer (PDSO) and the Responsible Officer (RO) for SIT. Janet enjoys supporting international students with their overall adjustment to higher education and to living in the United States. She has developed and conducted training programs on culture shock and U.S. cultural adjustment as well as cross-cultural relationships. Janet is a certified teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) and has taught both elementary and secondary school students from China, Mexico and Costa Rica. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Janet has also taught Spanish at the elementary and secondary level.

Janet holds a BA from the University of Arizona and a MA from School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute. She has TESOL Certification from the Centro Espiral Mana. Recently, Janet completed a 200-hour yoga certification and she hopes to incorporate yoga into her language classes.

Janet lives in Brattleboro, Vermont and travels to Middlebury three days each week. While in Middlebury, Janet enjoys visiting its cafes and taking walks around the College’s spectacular campus. She has two grown children, a husband and two dogs and enjoys teaching, traveling, meeting new people from all over the world, and practicing yoga.
