Access from Route 30 to Route 125 on Old Chapel and Stewart Hill Roads to be suspended until the fall

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Work on the old Starr Library on Middlebury College’s main campus has begun in preparation for a new academic facility, the Donald Everett Axinn ‘51 Center for Literary and Cultural Studies at Starr Library.

A construction fence will surround the old library site. Beginning on Tuesday, July 18, access from South Main Street (Route 30) to College Street (Route 125) via Old Chapel Road and Stewart Hill Road will be closed, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be restricted.

Although entering Old Chapel Road from College Street will still be possible, the road will dead end at the McCullough Student Center, preventing through traffic to South Main Street. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to travel the area with caution as the community becomes familiar with the new traffic patterns.

The college plans to reopen Old Chapel Road in time for the fall 2006 semester.

More information about the project and a map that depicts changing traffic patterns on campus can be found online at http://www.middlebury.edu/administration/fs/planning/construction/axinn_traffic.htm.
