For the 12 people speaking or performing at the third-annual TEDx Middlebury conference, there was a time in their lives when they had a choice as to the path they wanted to follow. Each chose the road less traveled.

TEDx Middlebury 2013 will explore “The Road Not Taken” on March 9 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the concert hall of the Mahaney Center for the Arts.

A spoken-word artist, a female high school football coach, a mountaineer, and a mindfulness teacher are among the featured speakers who will embrace the TED motto of Ideas Worth Spreading, while sharing their personal experiences about making unconventional choices. The lineup includes a Middlebury student, Ryan Kim ’14, who won the inaugural TEDx Middlebury Student Speaker Contest last fall. A complete list of speakers is here.

TEDx Middlebury is a student-organized event licensed by the nonprofit TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design). Since its founding as a four-day conference in 1984, TED has expanded into a global phenomenon, spawning a pair of annual conferences, TED “Talks” that have been viewed online more than a billion times, and the licensed TEDx programs, which bring the TED experience to local communities around the globe.
