Onis Elizabeth Cheathams Appointed to Associate Director of Admissions

Middlebury College has named Onis Elizabeth Cheathams to the position of associate director of admissions. Prior to her acceptance of the Middlebury position, she served on the staff of the University of Michigan, first as a senior admissions counselor, and most recently as a pre-college coordinator in the office of academic multicultural initiatives. Her primary responsibility at the College will be admissions recruitment with an emphasis on multicultural students.

Cheathams is a graduate of Grand Valley State University in Michigan and holds an M.A. in guidance and counseling from Eastern Michigan University.

An educator interested in assuring equal education opportunities for all students, Cheathams noted, "Middlebury College is committed to reaching out to a wide range of students. The College also recognizes the importance of encouraging a diverse student body, one that enriches the cultural, intellectual and social exchange that is part of a college education." Throughout her career in higher education administration, Cheathams has created and implemented initiatives focused on increasing and maintaining diversity, including a comprehensive minority recruitment program, and a series of social and academic activities for an ethnically diverse student body. She also developed and administered scholarship programs for pre-college and college students, including Native American, African American, Asian American and Latino students.
