Middlebury College Celebrates Panther
Hockey Teams on Mar. 31
Men’s and Women’s Teams Honored
for Consecutive Championships; Community Invited to Skate with
the Panthers
Middlebury College will host a celebration
of the successive championship seasons of its men’s and women’s
hockey teams. The event will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 31 from
6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Middlebury’s new Chip Kenyon ‘85
Arena on Route 30, and is free and open to the public.
Coaches and members of both the men’s
and women’s hockey teams will be on hand to meet the public and
to sign autographs. Team photos will be handed out at the door
on a first-come, first-served basis, and refreshments will be
provided. A Middlebury College Store vending cart will offer the
opportunity to buy team shirts, hats and other commemorative items.
Fans are encouraged to bring their skates and take the ice at
the close of the celebration for skating in Kenyon arena with
both Panther teams.
The top-ranked Middlebury College women’s
ice hockey team (23-2-1) recently won its fourth straight ECAC
Championship. The Panther women have now won all four ECAC Division
III Championships while compiling a record of 72-0. The Panther
women also set the school record with 23 wins in a season, and
extended their home winning streak to 20 games.
The Middlebury College men’s ice hockey team, with
a record of 21-5-1, recently won its fifth straight NCAA Division
III National Championship, an accomplishment never before achieved
in college hockey at any level. The Middlebury men have accumulated
a record of 116-14-7 over the five championship seasons and are
19-1 in NCAA Tournament play.
