MIDDLEBURY, VT -
Middlebury College has donated
$30,000 to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association (MVAA). The
funds, which the association used to buy a new ambulance, were provided
by an anonymous donor to the College who requested that they be used specifically
for this purpose.
The
MVAA was able to buy the new ambulance, which cost more than $105,000,
by combining the College’s gift with previously existing funds and the
money from the sale of the old ambulance.
According
to Bob Goelet, a Middlebury College senior and the student liaison to
the MVAA, 10 students, including one who is currently studying abroad
during his junior year, and two staff members from the College are currently
volunteers with the association. The students each volunteer approximately
96 hours a month from September through May. Annually, all College volunteers
provide more than 9,400 hours of service to the organization.
