Matt Jennings is the editorial director in the communications office and editor-in-chief of Middlebury Magazine and its online component middmag.com

Under Matt’s guidance, Middlebury Magazine has won numerous national awards for general excellence, editorial content, and design; has been cited by education associations and journalism foundations for excellence in higher education reporting; and received national plaudits for its 2012 redesign by renowned creative director D.J. Stout. Matt has twice co-chaired an international conference for college and university magazine editors and regularly conducts conference workshops and webinars on editorial best practices. 

In addition to the magazine, Matt provides editorial direction and oversight for periodicals published by the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, the Middlebury Language Schools, and the Middlebury Bread Loaf School of English; offers editorial support and counsel for the Middlebury administration; co-directs the Middlebury Fellowship in Narrative Journalism; and serves as an advisor for undergraduate student publications, media internships, and multimedia productions.

Matt is a member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and has twice served as a judge for the National Magazine Awards.

He is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education’s Commission on Communications and Marketing.

Prior to working at Middlebury, Matt directed an award-winning publications program at Sidwell Friends School, an independent school in Washington, D.C.
