Matt Jennings is the editorial director in the communications office and editor-in-chief of Middlebury Magazine and its online component middmag.com.
Under Matt's guidance, Middlebury Magazine has won numerous national awards for general excellence, editorial content, and design; has been cited by education associations and journalism foundations for excellence in higher education reporting; and received national plaudits for its 2012 redesign by renowned creative director D.J. Stout. Matt has twice co-chaired an international conference for college and university magazine editors and regularly conducts conference workshops and webinars on editorial best practices.
Since 2009, Matt has co-directed (with Sue Halpern) the Middlebury Fellowships in Narrative Journalism. He also provides editorial support and counsel for the College administration and serves as an advisor for student publications, media internships, and multimedia productions.
Matt is a member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and has served as a National Magazine Award Judge; in 2015, he was part of a panel of jurors that selected the National Magazine Award for Feature Writing.
Prior to working at Middlebury, Matt directed an award-winning publications program at Sidwell Friends School, an independent school in Washington, D.C.
