COVID-19 Updates: Fall Semester

Chaplain's Fund

In order to help with coronavirus-related financial stresses being experienced by some members of the Middlebury community, we have loosened and streamlined the application process for Chaplain’s Fund assistance.

  • Benefits-eligible Middlebury employees may apply once without having to complete the income and expense worksheet.

  • The requirement of participating in My Secure Advantage financial coaching is waived for coronavirus-related applications.

Please Note:  Grant assistance through the Chaplain’s Fund is considered taxable income and as such will be recorded as imputed employee income to ensure federal, state, Medicare and social security taxation. Also, applicants must have worked at Middlebury for a minimum of one year to be eligible for assistance from the Chaplain’s Fund.

The Chaplain's Fund is a benefit available to regular, benefits-eligible part-time and full-time employees. To apply for assistance from the Chaplain's Fund, please fill out the application form below and contact the Scott Center for Spiritual and Religious Life at (802) 443-5626, or email Ellen McKay at

The Chaplain's Fund has been in existence since 1992.  It exists to issue one-time grants to employees who are facing unforeseen financial emergencies.  Funds are issued to the employee's creditors/vendors, rather than directly to the employee.

The Chaplain’s Fund was recently strengthened by a generous gift from the Class of 2019/2019.5, and by Student Government Association funds that were unspent during Middlebury’s shift to remote education due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Maximum available grant is $1,200.

If your financial emergency is not coronavirus-related, please use the Regular Chaplain’s Fund Application Form here.
