
The office of General Counsel and Risk Management assists the broader Middlebury community in their pursuit of new initiatives and opportunities, while proactively addressing legal matters and mitigating institutional risk.
This includes overseeing risk and legal issues arising out of the activities of the following schools and programs:

We strive to create a risk-aware culture, permitting the institution to ensure an effective means to identify, measure, control, and assign responsibility to manage legal issues and potential risks, while encouraging the acceptance of reasonable opportunities.
General Counsel
General Counsel specifically oversees and partners with all outside counsel retained on behalf of Middlebury for a variety of purposes, including for advice regarding the laws applicable to Middlebury’s operations, to solve legal problems and facilitate transactions, and to provide timely and thoughtful advice and resources covering a broad range of legal issues that help Middlebury, its faculty, and its staff fulfill their missions and meet their goals.
