Contact the Sponsored Research Office (SRO) to discuss seeking grants to support your individual research and curricular projects.

Our Services

Proposal development: We offer assistance for funding searches and the budgeting process. We can read your proposal and help you hone your grantsmanship; we also help with the writing process for institutional proposals. The SRO also offers grant-writing workshops throughout the year.

Publicity: The SRO works with faculty to ensure that grants are announced in MiddPoints and posted on this site. If you want a printed annual report of faculty grants, please call the SRO.

Administrative support: The SRO and the CFR record all grant activity, ensure compliance with College and federal regulations, and oversee reporting for institutional grants.

My project has been funded! How do I get the word out?

Tell the Sponsored Research Office! We’ll work with you to craft an announcement, submit it to MiddPoints for publication in an upcoming issue, and post it on this website.

What’s an “institutional” grant? Can I apply for one?

Institutional grants are awards to Middlebury to fund projects that support the mission of the College: academic programs, facility improvement or construction, or student life. Anyone can apply for an institutional grant on behalf of the College. If you have an idea for an institutional proposal, contact the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. We’ll ensure you have the institutional support you need to craft a compelling proposal.

Does the Sponsored Research Office copy and mail my proposal for me?

No. If your proposal is going out in hard copy form, you are responsible for copying, packaging, and shipping it. Be sure you know whether your deadline is a ship-by (postmark) deadline or a receipt deadline!

My question isn’t on this page!

Check the FAQs for each section of this website (menu on the left). If you still don't see it, please email it to us, so we can answer you—and use your question to improve this website. Thanks!
