Housing is based on the philosophy that students work together with their room, hall and dorm mates, making compromises when necessary, in order to create a safe and supportive living and learning environment. Students are guaranteed a place to live on campus but not necessarily a specific type of housing assignment, such as a single or a suite.
All residential buildings are co-educational. A small number of first-year floors are single sex. Most residential spaces house men and women side by side in separate rooms. On co-ed halls student communities may decide to designate bathroom facilities for single or mixed gender use.
First-Year and Sophomore Year:
Students generally reside within their commons communities. The five commons communities are:
- Atwater: Allen and Coffrin
- Brainerd: Stewart and Hepburn
- Cook: Battell Center and North, and Forest West
- Ross: Hadley and Millikin
- Wonnacott: Battell Center and South, and Gifford
Junior and Senior Year:
Students may choose from the range of housing options available to them across campus:
- Interest Houses
- Language Houses (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish)
- Special Interest Houses (Outdoor Interest, PALANA, Queer Studies, Weybridge)
- Super Blocks groups of students awarded housing for one year based on a common hobby, interest, or life-style
- Social Houses (Delta, KDR, Mill, Tavern, Xenia)
- A wide variety of suites and small senior houses
- Off Campus Housing (seniors only)
