Kalichstein, Laredo, Robinson Trio Does Three

at Concert Hall

The Kalichstein, Laredo, Robinson Trio performed

the first of three programs of Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Schubert

this month at Middlebury College’s Concert Hall in the Center

for the Arts.

The trio is, in the words of John Rockwell of the

New York Times, “one of the best blended, most sensitive

and intelligent piano trios in the world today.” The internationally

acclaimed soloists Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo and Sharon

Robinson breathe beauty and excitement into their playing that

makes each performance a memorable experience.

A perennial favorite of chamber music societies,

university series and international festivals, the trio tours

annually in the United States and Europe, and appears regularly

at the world’s premier concert halls. Among their acclaimed recordings

are a disc of Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio and “Kakadu”

Variations. Their performance of Beethoven’s :”Triple”

Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra has been hailed by

Gramophone as one of the very best. The trio’s most recent

release is a 3-CD “Vox Box,” including three Brahms

trios, two Mendelssohn trios, and a Dvorak “Dumky.”

To celebrate the trio’s 20th anniversary in 1997, Arabesque will

release “Legacies,” piano trios composed for Kalichstein-Lardeo-Robinson

by Hallgrimsson, Kirchner, Pärt, Silverman, and Zwilich.
