Middlebury College Names Three New Trustees
Four new members have recently been elected to the
Middlebury College Board of Trustees. Three of the new board members
are alumni of the College, the fourth is former Governor of Vermont
and former president of the University of Vermont Thomas P. Salmon.
Thomas Salmon was elected Governor of Vermont in
1972. He was re-elected in 1974. During his terms as Governor,
he served as the 1974 chairman of the New England Governors’ Conference
and as the 1975 chairman of the New England Regional Commission.
He has since served on various boards and commissions, including
the Vermont Higher Education Planning Commission, where he served
from 1985 to 1989. From 1986 to 1989, he was chairman of the New
England Board of Higher Education-sponsored study on the Law and
the Economy of New England. Mr. Salmon was appointed interim president
of the University of Vermont in 1991. He was appointed president
of the University in 1993.
Robert A. Jones of Incline Village, Nev., is a member
of the Middlebury College class of 1959. Mr. Jones is an entrepreneur,
economist, and money market analyst. He is the founder of MMS
International, an information service on economic and financial
trends now owned by The Standard and Poors Group of McGraw-Hill.
Mr. Jones is also the founder and chairman of Market News Services,
which supplies information to subscribers about the actions of
the Federal Reserve. The company is headquartered in New York
City with offices in 8 major cities around the world. In 1989,
Mr. Jones founded Market Broadcasting Corporation to create information
delivery solutions for the financial community. The author of
two books on financial analysis, Mr. Jones is a frequent lecturer
and seminar leader at institutions throughout the world.
Garrett M. Moran is a member of the Middlebury College
class of 1976. He received the MBA degree in finance from the
Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Garrett
is a managing director and vice chairman of the banking unit at
Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in New York.
Michael C. Obel-Omia is a 1988 graduate of Middlebury
College. He is Dean of Students at the Roxbury Latin School in
West Roxbury, Mass., where he also teaches English and coaches
wrestling and baseball. Mr. Obel-Omia has been an active alumnus
of Middlebury who has worked closely with the admissions office
and as a fund raising volunteer.
