Middlebury College Habitat for Humanity Chapter’s

Silent Art Auction to Benefit Huntington Project

Middlebury College’s Habitat for Humanity chapter

will host its second annual silent art auction from 8 to 10:00

p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 in the Grand Salon of Le Chateau, off

College Street. The fundraising event is part of a partnership

with the Habitat for Humanity chapter at the University of Vermont,

and the organization’s Essex Junction-based Green Mountain affiliate.

The auction will showcase works donated by Middlebury College

students, faculty, and staff. Quintet music and hors d’oeuvres

will enhance the evening’s activities. The public is encouraged

to attend.

The two student chapters are committed to a combined

two-year fundraising goal of $5,000 toward the construction of

a home in Huntington for a local family in need. With less than

$1,000 to raise, organizers of the silent auction hope it will

be a significant contributor toward the completion of this goal.

“Last year’s auction was very successful,”

said Middlebury College student Jennifer Jensen, co-chair of the

College’s Habitat for Humanity chapter. “Not only was over

$1,000 raised, but it turned out to be an excellent way to bring

the community together, and to promote student art work on campus.”

The silent auction is only one of many fundraisers

that Middlebury’s chapter has organized during this academic year.

Events such as an annual 5K road race, “coffee houses,”

and a semi-formal gathering contributed to the $5,000 goal. The

chapter also hosts an annual spring break trip.

The Middlebury chapter is part of a consortium of

campus chapters around the nation. The College chapter works in

conjunction with the Green Mountain affiliate, which organizes

large-scale fundraising events and selects eligible families for

homes.

All proceeds will benefit the Huntington project.
