Middlebury College’s Concert Series Poster Wins

International Award

The International Society for the Performing Arts

(ISPA) has awarded the Middlebury College Center for the Arts

a 1997 Graphics Competition award in the Poster Design: Full Season

category. The College’s winning entry was a poster listing its

Concert Series events for the 1997-1998 season.

Susan Stockton, director of the Center for the Arts,

said “We’re pleased to receive this award. It’s an international

competition and we’re in very good company with other winners

such as The Stockholm Concert Hall and The Royal New Zealand Ballet.”

The poster, which is framed and on display in various

campus locations, including the Center for the Arts, is a symphony

of blacks and deep golds. Featuring a photo of a grand piano

alone on stage in the Concert Hall, surrounded by the Hall’s octagonal

ceiling, triangular-shaped lights and windows, and row upon row

of empty seats, the poster is a striking play of light and dark,

stillness and potential commotion. Below the photo, the concert

series events are listed.

The poster was designed by Kristin Geishecker of

Burlington, Vt.-based Boulder Design and Illustration.
