Middlebury College Environmental

Studies Students to Share Projects with the Public

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Middlebury

College students enrolled in the environmental studies course

“Natural Science and the Environment” will present the results of a

semester-long literature review of specific environmental issues,

both regional and global, at a poster session open house on Thursday,

Nov. 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Informal

Learning Space on the 6th floor of Bicentennial Hall on Bicentennial

Way off College Street (Route 125). It is free and open to the

public.

Called a poster session because

students construct posters outlining their findings and display them

at the session, the event will allow students to guide observers

through their research step-by-step. Students will display 26 posters

on topics that include coral bleaching, Eurasian milfoil,

agricultural issues ranging from local water quality to the potential

impact of global warming, technological possibilities for the future

such as electric cars and photovoltaic power, and pfiesteria―a

toxic organism that is responsible for some red tides in estuaries

along the eastern seaboard.

The “Natural Science and the

Environment” course is taught by Visiting Assistant Professor of

Chemistry Lori Del Negro and Assistant-in-Instruction for

Environmental Science Mary Gaudette.

“This is an informal event and we

encourage members of the public to come explore their interests with

us. It’s a chance to ask questions on these topics and to share

expertise with the students,” said Del Negro.

Del Negro, visiting assistant professor of chemistry, at
