Philip Benoit,

Director of Public Affairs, September 13, 3:36PM

In acknowledgement of President Bush’s designation of

tomorrow (Friday, September 14) as a national day of prayer

and remembrance, the College has scheduled two observances.

All members of the College community are invited to

participate in both events:

  • At 12:15 p.m.

tomorrow the campus community is asked to observe a five

minute period of silence in acknowledgement of President

Bush’s suggestion that midday be a time for all

citizens to reflect on the recent tragic events and the

many people who have suffered as a result of them. All

activities will be suspended, and the bells of Mead

Chapel will toll in remembrance of those who have

perished. All members of the College community are asked

to respect this time of silence. Mead Chapel will be open

for those who wish to gather there.
  • At 5 p.m. tomorrow

in Kenyon Arena there will be a community-wide memorial

observance. Both the College and local communities are

invited to attend this ecumenical, non-denominational

event. Area churches and religious organizations will

participate. Because of the time of the event, campus

dining halls will remain open until 9 p.m. tomorrow. The

event is expected to be heavily attended by residents of

the local area, so those on campus who can walk to Kenyon

Arena are encouraged to do so.

MIDDLEBURY,

Vt.-In recognition of the National Day of Prayer and

Remembrance, as announced by President Bush, Middlebury

College will hold an on-campus observance at 5 p.m. on

Friday, Sept. 14 at Kenyon Arena on Route 30 (South Main

Street). Both the College and local communities are invited

to attend this ecumenical, non-denominational event. Area

churches and religious organizations will participate.
