College celebrates 'Constitution Day' on September 17
Online and print collections offer help
in understanding the U.S. Constitution
Beginning in 2005, all educational institutions that receive federal funding are required by congressional mandate to celebrate “Constitution Day” on September 17 by offering educational programming related to the Constitution. Middlebury College encourages all members of its community to be familiar with the U.S. Constitution, and has provided this web site to make available some library and internet resources that you may find interesting to peruse.
The U.S. Constitution Online site answers both common and obscure constitutional FAQ’s, while the Library of Congress’ American Memory project includes a number of relevant documents and a presentation, “To Form a More Perfect Union: The Work of the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention.” Finally, among the library books listed, you will find Charles A. Dana Professor of Political Science Murray Dry’s 2004 book, Civil Peace and the Quest for Truth: The First Amendment Freedoms in Political Philosophy and American Constitutionalism.
