Studies to Host Talk on “Ethics, Business, and Corruption”

and Panel Discussion on “Year of the Euro”

Middlebury College’s Geonomics Center for International

Studies will host a policy leadership

seminar, “Ethics, Business, and Corruption,” by Pedro

J. Pick on Monday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, April 16,

at 4:30 p.m., a roundtable discussion titled “Year of the

Euro” will also be offered. Both events are free and open

to the public, and will take place in the Geonomics Center located

on Hillcrest Road, off College Street (Route 125).

Pedro J. Pick is at Geonomics as part

of the College’s Executive-in-Residence Program. A multilingual,

international businessman, Pick has an extensive background in

management and management consulting in the chemicals, packaging,

banking, and agribusiness industries. He has worked in Latin America,

Europe, and the United States. Pick’s management, consulting,

and training experience includes assistance in organizational,

strategic, and operational issues for leading Latin American industrial

and financial groups. In the early 1990s, he was involved in the

privatization process in Eastern Europe.

“Year of the Euro,” on April

16, will offer a broad view of the impact of the Euro—a unit

of currency adopted in January of 1999 by all member countries

of the European Union—on life in Europe, including politics,

business, economics, and the media. “Year of the Euro”

panelists are John B. Richardson, deputy head of the European

Union Delegation of the European Commission to the U.S.; Robert

Thomson, U.S. managing editor of Financial Times; Malte Krueger,

Lecturer and Bradley Fellow at the University of Western Ontario

economics department; Mitchell Smith, assistant professor of political

science at Middlebury College; Patrick Crowley, assistant professor

of economics at Middlebury College; moderator: Edward C. Knox,

College professor of French and director of European studies at

Middlebury College.
