MIDDLEBURY,
VT - A fixture on the British music scene and a prolific performer,
Thomas Trotter will visit Middlebury College’s Mead Chapel for an organ
concert Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m. Mead Chapel is on Hepburn Road off
College Street (Route 125). Trotter is the organist at Westminster Abbey’s
St. Margaret’s Church, the Birmingham City organist, and a visiting professor
at the Royal College of Music in London.
In his stop at Middlebury
College, Trotter will put Mead Chapel’s Gress-Miles organ to the test
with a program of selections by Bach, Messiaen and Duruflé.
In addition to weekly recitals
at Birmingham City Hall, Trotter’s recital schedule takes him all over
the world. He has toured extensively in the United States, Europe and
Japan. His performances include festivals and appearances with leading
orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic
and the Vienna Philharmonic.
The Milwaukee Sentinel
called a Trotter recital “an engrossing demonstration of technique
and musicianship.” After a performance in Ontario, The American Organist
declared: “Thomas Trotter completely deserves his high repute in
the organ world. His technical prowess
is the servant of a musical
intelligence that is both mature and versatile.”
Trotter is also an active
recording artist, appearing exclusively on the Decca label for more than
a decade. Gramophone listed his Messiaen and Mozart releases on its “critics
choice” lists and his Liszt recording won the 1995 Franz Liszt Grand
Prix.
The upcoming performance
is sponsored by the Middlebury College Performing Arts Series.
Tickets are $10 for general
admission and $8 for seniors. For tickets or information, contact the
