The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs Global Fellows Program presents Dr. Yannek I. Leiderman and “A.I. in Medicine and Surgery- Unprecedented Benefit to Humanity or Extinction Event?”

The application of artificial intelligence to problems and unmet needs in medicine and surgery offers arguably unparalleled opportunity for transformative societal impact. The allure of AI-mediated disruptive innovation in healthcare has spurred exponential growth in research by leading tech companies and universities. This seminar will introduce participants to selected applications of AI-based innovation in healthcare via case-based examples. Potential hazards, including disparate benefit among underrepresented groups in healthcare, challenges in the developing world, and data privacy concerns will be addressed. A brief introduction to AI methodology in medicine and surgery will help learners to develop an understanding of concepts necessary for good stewardship as we continue to develop tools with unforeseeable potential.
