Play by August Wilson, performed by The Acting Company, directed by Lili-Anne Brown. From the writer of The Piano Lesson, Fences, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom comes the story of Memphis Lee, a diner owner in Pittsburgh in 1969 who must decide if he should allow the government to take over his building or sell the property to a ruthless businessman. Full of vivid characters, joy, hope, love, and perseverance, this Tony-nominated play celebrates the spirit, laughter, heart, and resilience of the people who make our country great even when faced with overwhelming odds. Performed by The Acting Company, a preeminent American theater organization that develops the nation’s best young actors by touring professional theater of excellence across America. We pair this important company with one of the most accessible of August Wilson’s Century Cycle plays, in its first touring production authorized by the Wilson estate. For mature audiences. Q&A with the artists after the show.
