The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs program on Autocracy and Democracy presents “Autocracy Rising: Transitions to Authoritarianism in Venezuela and Beyond” with Javier Corrales of Amherst college
Venezuela, which once enjoyed periods of democratically elected governments in the latter half of the twentieth century, has descended into autocratic rule, coupled with economic collapse. Javier Corrales, professor of political science at Amherst College, discusses his book “Autocracy Rising,” which explores how and why this happened, and explains the implications for democratic backsliding elsewhere.
