Virtual Middlebury

A guest panel of the Bad Old Days Posse.

Early in 2019, in conjunction with NARAL- Massachusetts, a group of women established the “Bad Old Days Posse”.  Our fundamental purpose is to share with audiences what life was really like for women before the protections of Roe v Wade.  Our sense is that most people, even those activists who are most dedicated and passionate about reproductive rights, have no direct knowledge or frame of reference about what life was like for women before 1973.  They are too young to have lived it.  So, those of us of a certain age, who grew up before Roe, believe that we have a special expertise, and the responsibility to use that expertise, to share our stories.  Some of us had illegal abortions; some of us did not.  Some of us had friends, family members, roommates, or acquaintances who had illegal abortions; some of us did not.  Some of us did abortion counseling before Roe, sending women to England or Puerto Rico.
