Breakthrough is a national educational non-profit that launches motivated middle school students on the path to college and prepares college students for careers in education.

Here is a personal testimonial from Heidi Erbe ‘06.5:

Teaching at Breakthrough is a great fit for Middlebury students who are potentially interested in pursuing a career in education. I taught at Breakthrough after my junior year at Middlebury, where I majored in Environmental Studies and received minors in Elementary Education and Secondary Education. The summer I spent as a teacher intern at Breakthrough was the hardest I worked in my life, but it was a life-changing experience that has undoubtedly and irrevocably changed the course my life. After graduating from Midd, I returned to Breakthrough to dedicate my work to educational access and equality. After almost five years with the organization, I am still inspired by the Breakthrough students and teachers on a daily basis. I encourage any Middlebury student who has any inclination to teach in the future to look into Breakthrough as a summer internship.
