Career Conversation: Online Journalism and Storytelling
Adirondack House Library
Come listen and learn from Alison Speigel ’08 and Afi Yellow-Duke ’15 about their respective paths to the world of on-line journalism. Previously the Lifestyle Editor for the Huffington Post, Alison was a SOAN major with a dual minor in Religion and South Asian Studies. Alison started out in the non-profit world doing development work for a Buddhist magazine and the New York Public Library while doing editing on the side. Come see how Alison was able to parlay her transferable liberal arts skills to bring her to her current role as the Features Editor for the food and lifestyle media group Tasting Table. Afi’s path, while briefer, is no less compelling, having started out with nationally renowned radio programs StoryCorps and Studio 360, WNYC’s award winning show on arts and culture. Come hear how Afi found a career niche combining her SOAN and Dance majors in a number of ways to get to her current role as associate producer for the narrative music journalism show Pitch.
