Omidyar Network is a philanthropic investment firm dedicated to harnessing the power of markets to create opportunity for people to improve their lives. We invest in and help scale innovative organizations to catalyze economic and social change. eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and wife Pam established Omidyar Network based on their conviction that every person has the power to make a difference. Our work enables people to discover that power, improve their own lives, and make lasting contributions to their communities. We support organizations whose market-based approach has the capacity for large-scale, catalytic impact. The cornerstones of our investment focus are economic advancement and individual participation, which we pursue through five initiatives: Consumer Internet & Mobile, Entrepreneurship, Financial Inclusion, Government Transparency, and Property Rights. Presenters Jay Conte, Senior Director, Human Capital As director of human capital, Jay works closely with senior executives across Omidyar Network’s portfolio to support their executive search, talent management, and organizational development efforts. Prior to joining Omidyar Network, Jay was senior director of global staffing for eBay Inc. He originally joined PayPal in 2007 and within a number of months was promoted to head of recruiting for the entire company. In this role, Jay managed 200 recruiting professionals, a $25 million budget, and the companys efforts to hire more than 4,000 new employees annually, ranging from software engineers to senior executives in every eBay location across the globe. Previously, Jay spent six years with Apple Inc. Joining as an early member of the internal executive search team in 2001, Jay helped build Apples executive team while the company grew from 5,000 to more than 20,000 employees. Additionally, Jay helped rebuild the executive team at Apples Japanese subsidiary and re-architect the company’s recruiting strategy throughout Asia. Lisa Kolenda, Executive Recruiter, Human Capital As a member of the human capital team, Lisa supports portfolio organizations in the areas of recruitment and talent management. In that role, she not only manages executive recruiting across Africa and Europe but also coaches organizational leaders to enhance their ability to manage current talent and identify future leaders. Prior to joining Omidyar Network in 2010, Lisa served as the director of recruiting at technology startup Inflection. She single-handedly built Inflection’s recruiting department, which led to the hiring of an all-star executive team and a significant increase in talent acquisition across all departments. Previously, Lisa worked as a recruiting consultant and spent nearly six years at QuinStreet, managing a team of recruiters as the company rapidly scaled.
