Please join us for a screening of a documentary film, The History of Tenryumura: Embracing truth, memory, and reconciliation. This short film takes place in a rural village in Nagano prefecture in Japan. Through interviews and conversations with elders of the village, we learn about the community’s tragic WWII history – and consider the process of reconciliation.
The film was produced by the Middlebury College School in Japan in collaboration with the Film & Media Culture Department; the Center for Community Engagement; and the MIIS Translation and Translation and Localization Management Programs. This documentary is a funded project of the Conflict Transformation Collaborative, with additional support from the Office of the Provost. The documentary is in Japanese, and English subtitles created by student translators are included.
We will have a short introduction, followed by the film and a discussion.
