Generating the political will to normalize relations with Cuba has taken more than half a century. Some pundits believe that may have been the easy part! Join Vice President Dayton-Johnson and guest speaker Jonathan Showe as they discuss Cuba’s circuitous path to date and the winding road ahead.

After traveling to Cuba more than 200 times, Jon Showe is perhaps America’s most frequent visitor to the island. After military service, including in Vietnam, and with a graduate degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University, he served as a foreign economic policy advisor in the Nixon and Ford administrations.
Since 1998, Cuba has been his focus, and he’s met an assortment of people—dissidents, farmers, journalists, professionals, intellectuals, and senior government officials. Cuba, he says, is more than a place—it is a state of mind.

This event, sponsored by the eMIISsaries, is free and open to the public.
