The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs program on Power, Wealth and Global Political Economy presents Dr. David Laborde of the International Food Policy Research Institute, who will examine the different drivers that have contributed to create a global food price crisis in 2022. In particular, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused turmoil in three highly interconnected markets – food, fuel, and fertilizer – leading to serious food security concerns globally. Dr. Laborde will discuss various policy responses considered by policy makers in 2022 and propose potential scenarios for 2023.

Dr. Laborde is a Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Division at the International Food Policy Research Institute, where he has worked since 2007. He holds a Ph.D. in International Economics from the University of Pau in France and has also worked as a consultant for the European Commission, the Economic Commission for West Africa, the World Bank, USAID, and various UN agencies.
